Over the last several decades, the American church has experienced a significant decline, and a large part of that decline has come from young people who were raised in the church leaving it as adults. This series, called Pass It On, is intended to speak directly to the cultural, social, and spiritual challenges that make it difficult for faith to endure from one generation to the next. Our goal over these three weeks is to look to Scripture for grounding on how we, as God's people, can navigate these challenges together and faithfully pass on the gift of Christ to those who come after us.

Sunday, September 20: Pass It on in the Family

This series begins with the biblical foundation for passing on the faith, and that foundation is the family. Over the course of the twentieth century, the American church took on much of the responsibility for training children in the faith. Scripture, however, places that responsibility and blessing first with parents in the home. This foundation matters more now than ever, because the broader culture is no longer one that reinforces or assumes a Christian upbringing the way it once did. We'll look at what it actually looks like for faith to be passed on in the everyday rhythms of family life.

Sunday, September 27: Pass It on in the Family of Faith

Christian parents are never meant to raise their children in Christ alone. God has joined believers together into one body, the church, and that body is meant to offer encouragement, support, strength, and wisdom to families as they raise the next generation. This kind of support happens naturally within real relationships in a local congregation, and it becomes even more important for families who don't have consistent Christian grounding at home. This week, we'll explore the role the whole congregation plays in walking alongside the next generation and helping pass the faith along with them.

Sunday, October 4: Pass It on Equipped in Faith

The series closes by bringing things full circle and looking at the role of pastors and teachers in passing on the faith. God has not given the church spiritual leaders to replace the role of parents or the broader family of faith. Instead, he has given the church pastors and teachers for two reasons: to equip parents and others to pass on the faith effectively, and to teach and proclaim Christ directly to the next generation themselves. This final week ties the whole series together around that shared calling.
